Tottenham’s leading goalscorer Jermain Defoe has been included in the squad for tomorrow’s Barclays Premiership clash with Liverpool.

Defoe missed training on Thursday after being struck down by illness but returned to action today and did enough to be included in Martin Jol’s matchday squad.

With Mido out for two weeks with a stomach strain, Jol has included former Dutch under-21 striker Mounir el Hamdaoui and Matthew Yeates in the squad.

Defender Anthony Gardner has also been named in the squad despite having hardly trained for a fortnight with a foot injury. Cover for him is provided by Michael Dawson.

Michael Brown is out for a fortnight after suffering a small fracture to the top of his foot in last week’s win over Newcastle while Thimothee Atouba is suspended.

Noe Pamarot (knee), Pedro Mendes (toe) and Nourredine Naybet (hamstring) are all long-term casualties and will not travel, but Goran Bunjevcevic and Michael Dawson are both in line for a call.

Provisional squad: Robinson, Cerny, Kelly, Gardner, King, Bunjevcevic, Dawson, Edman, Davies, Davis, Ziegler, Brown, Carrick, Defoe, Keane, Kanoute, El Hamdaoui, Yeates,
