Socialist MEP alleges Garda brutality at Shell to Sea protest
Socialist Dublin MEP Paul Murphy has lodged a complaint with the Garda Ombudsman alleging Garda brutality at a Shell to Sea protest in Mayo last Thursday.
He claims peaceful protestors were deliberately hurt by members of the Gardaí "in an aggressive and excessive use of force".
He said he was left with bruising and alleges gardaí "conciously tried to inflict pain" while removing him from a sit-down protest on the roadway.
Mr Murphy is also calling for a public investigation and said he has no confidence his complaint to the Garda Ombudsman will result in a serious investigation.
