A throat infection has forced Spice Girl Mel C to cancel her UK and Ireland tour dates.

While the infection is not thought to be serious, doctors have ordered her to rest her voice for the next month, a spokesman for the singer said.

The singer hopes to reschedule the UK dates of her tour in May.

The tour was due to start in Belfast on Sunday, followed by dates in Dublin, York, Manchester, Edinburgh, Wolverhampton, Nottingham, Brighton, Plymouth, Liverpool and finishing in Bristol on February 11.

Her international dates in Athens, Tel Aviv, Dubai, Singapore and Malaysia will go ahead unchanged from February 17 to March 2.

Mel C said: "I was really looking forward to the tour and I'm sorry to have disappointed my fans but I have to follow doctor's orders and look forward to touring in May."
