England pair Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard secured a critical victory for Liverpool against Manchester City.

Owen scored his first goal since October in the third minute and Gerrard lashed home from close range in the second period.

In between Shaun Wright-Phillips scored a fine City equaliser but it was not enough to avoid a 14th Premiership game in succession without a win.
